Reblocking and restumping are terms that are used interchangeably to describe the process of removing wooden stumps from beneath a building and replacing them with concrete stumps that will be more durable and will make the building more stable.
HOUSE REBLOCKING & RESTUMPING WOODSTOCK
Wooden stumps are often constructed from red gum wood and they are common in homes that are made from weatherboard, brick veneer and solid brick.
If there is a problem with the stumps then this may present itself in a number of ways. You may notice that there are cracks in the plaster, the doors do not shut properly or that the house does not seem level.
There are many reasons why you could have a problem with your stumps. Even when wood is cared for properly it can eventually become rotten and this will make the stumps unstable.
Termite infestation is also a common problem and it is often easier to replace the stumps than repair the damage that the termites have caused. If the wooden stumps were not set into a solid base then they can sink over time which means they are not able to support the building in the way that was intended.
If you do suspect that you have a problem then it doesn’t necessarily mean that all of the stumps will have to be replaced. In some cases, they can be repaired or the house can be made stable by adding some new stumps that will help to level things up.
When Is Reblocking Necessary?
If you have experienced any of the problems that have been discussed above, then you should contact an experienced Woodstock restumping contractor to come and carry out an assessment of whether reblocking is necessary. The earlier the problem can be dealt with, the less expensive it is likely to be.
Another reason to have reblocking carried out at your property is if you are thinking of selling your home soon. Having concrete stumps rather than wooden ones can increase the value of your home.
